Karv Building Design is a small Cairns studio working across new homes, renovations and selected commercial projects. Lisa Vis leads the studio and personally runs every project from concept through construction documentation.
About Lisa
Lisa has been interested in houses for as long as she can remember. Driving past a half-built home to read its layout, walking through open inspections, noticing how a block was used or wasted.
After twenty years in hairdressing, she turned that interest into a career, studying building design and starting Karv to focus on the kind of homes she had always wanted to work on.
Married to a builder, she brings a practical understanding of how drawings translate into a real project on site. That sits alongside a strong design instinct and a clear point of view about how homes should feel to live in.
Aesthetic appeal with everyday function
The aim is a home that suits its block, its climate and the people living in it.
Karv designs spaces that balance how a home looks with how it actually works. That means thinking carefully about proportion, flow and where the light falls, from the earliest concept sketches.
It also means designing homes that connect with the outdoors, with gardens, views and outdoor living areas treated as part of the plan rather than an afterthought. The result should still feel considered ten years on.

Licence and scope
Karv Building Design holds a Building Design Low Rise licence in Queensland. This covers drawings for:
- Residential class 1 and class 10 buildings
- Commercial class 2 to class 9 buildings up to 2,000m², type C construction only
Larger or higher-class commercial projects can be undertaken as design and construct work in collaboration with Vis Construction.
